Grow and Eat at The Chai Centre

‘Grow and Eat’ will create new food growing and healthy lifestyle opportunities at The Chai Centre in Burnley, combating health inequalities that exist in the community. We will use food growing and cooking as an introduction to healthier choices, and support participants to become more active and learn about the nature on their doorstep. Expert run, inclusive and engaging nature-based activities on site will also improve biodiversity in the greenspace. We will encourage pollinators, create wildlife habitats and encourage sustainable decisions on the site and back in homes. Capital work will include the construction of a polytunnel in the garden area and an outdoor kitchen area with an edged, gravel hard-standing for events and a woodstore to keep pizza oven fuel dry. Picnic benches for volunteers/visitors and Centre Staff will increase use of the area. We will also create a wildlife pond to increase biodiversity and create a relaxing environment.
