Growndwork East – Growing in the Past

Project Description: The grant will allow the group to construct a polytunnel in the grounds adjoining Elstow Abbey. They are planning a programme of landscape improvements over the coming years which will see the recreation of the historic grounds surrounding the Abbey, including the installation of a Benedictine Garden, a riverside walk and heritage fish ponds, to give visitors to the Abbey a glimpse into the past. The polytunnel will allow volunteers to grow heritage plant species, (some of local provenance) which will be utilised throughout the historic planting schemes promoting biodiversity.
