Grozone Grow and Eat

The Grozone Project aims to build community cohesion through skills-sharing and long-term and sustainable volunteering for everyone. The project partners deliver a range of gardening and practical conservation activities based around the Grozone site. Last year we ran ‘Grow and Eat’ – a hugely successful NCFE-accredited course. Over 80% of the course attendees now volunteer regularly at Grozone and are keen to keep learning. We would like to build on this success by running more horticultural training – both formal and informal and we need some kind of shelter/outdoor classroom. In line with our drive for sustainability, we have chosen to commission a yurt from a sister project in Burnley, which the volunteers can help erect and set up. We also plan to build a compost toilet for use by volunteers and staff working on site. We have chosen to build a compost toilet for environmental reasons, and so that volunteers can be involved in the actual construction.
