Gunns Mill

Gunns Mill Furnace is a unique survival of a 17th century blast furnace. English Heritage considers it to be one of the top 10 priority properties in need of conservation.The proposal is the complete repair, conservation and continuing maintenance of the existing structure and the construction of such further buildings as may be required to enhance its availability to the wider community. The project will cover and closely involve the public in all aspects of the conservation process, include the provision of carparking, services, viewing platforms to ensure public access to every part of the monument throughout the programme, subject only to health and safety constraints as well as actual and on-line description and interpretation, to ensure the public fully comprehend the outcomes expected from every stage, with opportunities to participate in the surveys and processes as appropriate.
