Gunsgreen House Restoration

The overall project involves the restoration of the John Adam designed Gunsgreen House and its opening to the public as an Interpretation Centre for smuggling (which funded the building of the House) and as a furnished historic house, with complementary interpretation.
The aims of the project are:
• To ensure the long term survival of Gunsgreen House
• To provide a new visitor attraction for Eyemouth
• To provide learning opportunities for people of all ages, particularly school students
• To provide high quality community facilities
• To help people to understand the history of Eyemouth, particularly in the eighteenth century
The elements of the project for which funding is sought contribute to further developing public understanding of this significant building and will safeguard its long term survival:
• Restoration ofthe original (1750s) decorative scheme of the entrance hall and graining panelling on the main staircase
