Habitat and amenity improvements in Erne West

A range of small sites and public open spaces in the Erne West area will be improved through the planting of native trees, planting hedges, management of wildflower meadows, scrub clearance and woodland management, as well as improvements to urban green spaces and public access. There will also be some work to control alien invasive species. This will enhance several habitat types and will contribute to six Habitat Action Plans.

Local volunteers will be involved in all aspects of the project and will also receive training to increase their skills and environmental awareness. Local publicity and educational events will raise environmental awareness and understanding within schools, communities and the general public.

Much of the work will contribute to the targets of the Fermanagh Local Biodiversity Action Plan (LBAP). However, biodiversity will be improved on all sites worked on, as well as public access to the sites and their general amenity.
