Projects / Habitat Creation

Habitat Creation

The project will create 2.4 ha of new reed bed, wet woodland and wet grassland (swamp) habitat at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre in Lancashire, primarily to provide nesting habitat for a UK and Local BAP species – the Reed Bunting. The project will enable WWT to make a significant contribution to the objectives and actions of the Reedbed Species Action Plan for Lancashire.

The new habitat will include over 360 metres (0.2 ha) of open water ponds and channels designed to provide fringing reed beds and emergent vegetation suitable for a range of species, including Reed Bunting and Water Vole.
