Projects / Habitat Enhancement at Chapel Bank Nature Reserve

Habitat Enhancement at Chapel Bank Nature Reserve

This is an important South London reserve including small relict areas of chalk grassland and ancient woodland. Until its management was taken on by London Wildlife Trust, it had been neglected for many years with consequent loss of biodiversity value. The project seeks to reverse this decline and restore historic features of the reserve that have been lost or damaged. Of particular importance are open chalk grassland, with is rich associated fauna and flora, and coppice in ancient woodland. The extent of both of these habitat types will considerably increased as a result of scrub clearance, tree removal and re-coppicing
