Habitat Enhancements for Lapwing at RSPB Fannyside Nature Reserve

This project aims to carry out important enhancements to the acid and marshy grassland habitat of RSPB Fannyside Nature Reserve, to create favourable conditions that attract endangered wading bird species such as lapwing, which is listed on the UK Biodiversity Action Plan (UK BAP). Specifically, we wish to undertake a programme of rush cutting to help keep vegetation at the correct and natural height for a plethora of wildlife. In addition to lapwing, we also anticipate this activity will benefit the UK BAP species already found on the reserve, including reed bunting, grey partridge, skylark, grasshopper warbler and brown hare, as well as rare Local Biodiversity Action Plan species of curlew, snipe and Taiga bean goose.
