Habitat restoration for breeding black grouse

A 3-year research trial to assess the effects of experimental management of coarse Molinia (purple moor grass) dominated grassland to restore heather moorland and willow scrub to enhance breeding conditions for the black grouse. Management will create greater structural diversity by breaking up stands of Molinia and restoring ericaceous cover and willow scrub through a reseeding and planting programme with a full monitoring programme to record responses by the vegetation, invertebrate and breeding bird communities.
