Halifax Minster – Support for Community Activity & Performance

Much of the space at the east end of the Nave is occupied by a raised platform which is no longer fit for purpose – inflexible, no access for wheelchairs, badly worn with poor sight-lines for audiences.To meet the cultural and community needs of a range of local community organisations, the Minster needs to remove the current wooden dais (which is over a void) and re-lay in stone part of the Nave floor, to a standard that will facilitate performance without further covering, and provide a secure base on which a new dais/ stage can be put when needed. This work will permit wheelchair access to this area, also reducing drafts and improving audience sight lines, enabling wheelchair users to be accommodated at the front (near the performance space) rather than at the rear of the Nave.
