Harpurhey Ponds Regeneration

We are seeking funding from the LTCS to provide a three stage reed bed system to treat the water pollution that has occurred in the ponds during the industrial revolution. The three stage reed bed will comprise of an artificially created wetland with specially selected species of reeds that have the ability to absorb and filter pollutants from the water. At the same time the reed bed will provide an important habitat for local wildlife. The LTCS funding will also be used to fund an ecological baseline survey to determine the increase in habitat value and biodiversity enhancement of the project, as well as providing DDA compliant access improvements to improve public access and the recreational value of the project site. Funding will also be used towards the overall management of this project and co-ordinating volunteers and volunteer time
