Harrison Wood – land acquisition

The purchase of a 483 acre site of woodlands in the Lincolnshire Wolds AONB. The site has been in existence for over 1000 years but recently run as a commercially managed woodland. The wood was closed to the public almost two years ago due to the level of dead and dying ash present due to ash dieback.

The overarching aim is to purchase the woodland and bring it into our management in order to restore the ancient woodland to its former glory and ensure it is safe again to open up for people to enjoy for more years to come. Due to the commercial nature of the timber on site there is a risk that it would otherwise be sold to commercial forestry operations and elements of ancient woodland would be lost forever. The value this ancient woodland could bring to people and nature if restored and managed could be huge.

The works will revolve around a, safety operations on site to remove diseased trees and make the site safe for visitors, and b, in restoring the ancient woodland element through a detailed management plan.
