Havering Village Green, Romford – Village Green Improvement (007975)

Overlooked by the Parish Church of St John the Evangelist, Havering Village Green is one of the north most parks in the borough located in the village of Havering. Whilst the village green is mainly laid to grass and used for village events, a small pond is located on the site east of North Road and is easily overlooked. The pond is located next to Saint Francis Hospice and is being maintained by the volunteers there and the Havering Atte-bower Conservation Society (HABCOS). Works by volunteers have been done to clear surrounding encroaching vegetation and rogue trees, making the pond a more prominent feature. However, further improvements are required. This project would seek to renovate the pond and make it more of an attraction for wildlife and residents. Marginal planting, a small floating island, interpretation board and some landscaping works would be required to really make this pond something special and bring lots of ecological and recreational interest.
