Haymill Valley – Access Improvement And Water Control Upgrade

Haymill Valley is a wonderful, if small, nature reserve within Slough. As one of the most extensive areas of wildlife habitat in urban Slough it is a rich resource and is enjoyed by the local community. The reserve comprises several distinct habitats – wet carr woodland, scrub, oak and ash with hazel coppice and reedbeds, ponds and pools.
This project will allow us to improve the walkway through the nature reserve. Creating a clearly defined surfaced all-weather route in place of the current narrow unsurfaced path through the reserve will encourage new visitors into the reserve to experience the delights of this wonderful wild oasis in the centre of Slough.
We will also provide repairs and improvements to the weir which will allow us to implement water control. The weir needs to be replaced with a controllable structure to enable water to be held back within the site improving areas of reedbed and carr and maintaining areas of open water throughout the summer months.
