Headrace Habitat

Warwick Bridge Corn Mill is a Grade II* listed historic building of cultural significance, . Whilst the mill itself was renovated to resume flour production, additional work needs to be undertaken to the headrace, bypass and cascade that were eroded in the major flooding of 2007and 2015, including removing accumulated silt and vegetation from the watercourse and its banks that reduce performance, visual and ecological amenity. Designated a main river and a tributary of the River Eden SSSI, the watercourse, being part of the Cairn Beck, could present a local flood risk to the community of Warwick Bridge. The proposed project works to remove silt and excess vegetation, conserving and enhancing the headrace, bypass and cascade, which together are essential to improving river quality status and reducing flood risk to properties bordering this special wildlife corridor
