Heathland – protection and promotion

The project aims to carry out works accross 7 hectares of priority lowland heathland at Strawberry Hill Heath (SSSI). Works include tree felling to reduce woodland encroachment on the rare lowland heathland habitat as well as installing fencing to protect nesting sites of Nighjar (Caprimulgus europaeus). This should ensure that the sites valuable heathland resource is secure, with ongoing maintenance possible by grazing.

In addition we wish to undertake a programme of education sessions with local school and youth groups to educate the current generation of children of the valeru of the local landscape and how they can interact with and enjoy it.
