Hedgerows, Maulden – Reconnection

To expand and restore Maulden’s hedgerow network through a programme of planting and hedge maintenance designed to contribute significantly to local biodiversity and landscape value. It will involve:
. Planting and follow up weed treatment of 4 km of locally-sourced species-rich hedgerow. Areas targeted for planting will particularly be;
Sites currently in agr-environment schemes but not eligible for capital expenditure (e.g. Entry Level Stewardship), as these are sustained on an ongoing basis for environmental benefit;
Sites with the potential to expand the range of a local hazel dormouse population (UK BAP Priority)
. Delivery of two single-day courses for landowners in hedgerow management, plus a single-day hedge-laying course for landowners. These are key to the successful physical delivery of the project and will also support ongoing hedgerow maintenance activity in the future.
