Hedgrows for Hairstreaks

Our aim is to improve management within the Forest of Feckenham to benefit the Brown Hairstreak, a UK BAP Priority Species which is regionally only found in the Wychavon area of Worcestershire. The project will plant and manage blackthorn (Brown Hairstreak caterpillar foodplant) in key sites in the wider area and promote awareness of the ecological requirements of the species. Access to Grafton Wood already managed will be improved and new facilities provided for visitors and volunteers. A storage shed for tools and the ATV used will be provided plus a shelter and display area for the benefit of volunteers and visitors.
This is the first stage of a wider project whose overall aims are:-
Increase ecological resilience of key habitats in this area
Increase opportunities for the enjoyment and understanding of wildlife, habitats and landscapes of the project area
Harness and demonstrate the ecological, social and economic benefits of landscape-scale management.
