Height Gate Farm, The Woodcraft Folk

Height Gate is a seventeenth century former farmhouse surrounded by its own four acres of pasture high above the Calder Valley, West Yorkshire. Sadly, all too familiar sights in this area are the numerous decaying stone remnants of such hardy hill farms (which flourished amongst the extensive local woollen industry before the turnof the century) or modern residential barn conversions for commuters. Height Gate is unusual in being acquired and restored to life through the efforts of a voluntary childrens and youth organisation – to provide a South Pennines hillside experience, develop self confidence and activities for visitors and residential groups
