Helping hedgehogs at Carbrook

Carbrook Ravine nature reserve is a surprising piece of wildness, woodland and meadows sandwiched between housing estates on the edge of Sheffield. For hedgehogs, habitat connectivity and passage between urban gardens and nearby rural areas are vital, making this an important sanctuary.
This project is intended to improve the habitat for hedgehogs by restoring 300m of lost hedgerow and clearing scrub to promote hedgehog-friendly cover. It is also intended to mitigate the threat to Carbrook’s hedgehogs posed by inappropriate human behaviour, including the installation of fencing to deter flytipping and gates to prevent access by off-road vehicles.
