Heritage, landscape, habitat and access work at Woodhouse Ridge, Leeds

Woodhouse Ridge, a former manicured Edwardian Park, is now a near-continuous area of unmanaged woodland, comprising also an area of glades and mixed woodland, some of it semi-natural ancient woodland and a streamside meadow. This project has been designed to focus on this meadow and improving the surrounds to a dilapidated bandstand base (which is the subject of a tandem environmental project). This is the last remaining structure embodying this Edwardian park history. The project has four themes for its outputs:- conservation of its heritage; facilitating learning about The Ridge by various potential user groups; encouraging participation in volunteering and the use of the Ridge by the public; and enhancing its biodiversity via targeted management interventions. This should all lead to enhanced use of The Ridge and improved environmental and heritage stewardship.
