Hetton Country Park & Eppleton Railway

The project will deliver resident identified local priorities. It will overhaul the accessibility of 2km of former mineral line for pedestrians (including wheelchairs/pushchairs), cyclists and equestrians, and will upgrade the botanical qualities of two accessible Sites and Nature Conservation Interest (noted for their botanical and ornithological assets). It will improve access to and from the Country Park and National Cycle Network Route 1, substantially extend the accessible network available to a disabled cycling initiative based in the Park, upgrade the biodiversity qualities of water vole, scrub and willow coppice habitats and will control infestations of Japanese knot-weed.
