Highgate Common Biodiversity and Access Improvement Project

A five year programme of capital projects to improve the biodiversity, access and interpretation at Highgate Common.
Highgate Common lies in the south-west of the county, 8km west of Dudley. It consists of 94 hectares of open heathland, copses and woodlands. The common is a SSSI and LNR as well as a Country Park.
The site is heavily used by the public and access paths and interpretation are in need of improving. Much of the common has become invaded with scrub and there is a plan to reduce woodland / scrub cover, by felling and ride maintenance, to a maximum of 40%. We also intend to undertake a bracken control programme for the heathland.
