Highlandman’s Road, Southern Section

Using the ‘as dug’ method, to resurrect from its current boggy state the southern section of the historic ‘highlandman’s Road’, linking the communities of Helensburgh and Rhu with Glen Fruin. The northern section was successfully completed within the past two years. Although the route can be walked as a separate entity it has the added advantage of being an integral part of the ‘Three lochs Way’, a 52k walking cycling route now recognised as one of Scotland’s ‘Great Trails’. In an area of outstanding natural beauty this project will greatly aid in providing the public free, pleasurable and healthy recreation. Helensburgh and District Access Trust, which manages similar projects, is comprised entirely of volunteers from various walks of life who share a common aim of providing the public network of good quality paths accessible to all.
