Hillingdon Grassland Restoration

To restore and improve 25ha of unimproved grassland in four London Wildlife Trust (LWT) London Borough of Hillingdon nature reserves. Unimproved grassland is a London and UK Priority BAP habitat. The grassland on these reserves has suffered from a lack of resources and is now encroached by dense blackthorn and bramble thickets, affecting the grassland habitat and species recorded at these reserves, and creating access issues for the public.

LWT has limited resources for managing our grassland at our Hillingdon reserves, therefore the management and condition of the grassland has declined over the years. The LWT Hillingdon group has been dedicated to working on these reserves for 20 years; however as volunteers with decreasing resources and limited experience, they can only carry out small scale infrequent works. This project would carry out large scale sustainable grassland restoration works at Yeading Brook Meadows, Huckerby’s Meadow, Gutteridge Wood, and Ten Acre Wood.
