Hoglands Park, Southampton- Creation of Cricket MUGA

This project aims to reintroduce cricket to central Southampton through the construction of a Cage Cricket MUGA in Hoglands Park. Hoglands is a public park in the centre of Southampton that was once the historical home of cricket within the City; a stones throw from ‘The Antelope’ inn where, in 1863, Hampshire CCC was founded. Since the mid 1980’s, no cricket team has been based at Hoglands and today there are no more cricket teams based within the city. Cage Cricket is a vibrant, fast-paced urban cricket format with a proven (and award winning) track record of engagement within challenged and hard to reach communities. One such community where Cage Cricket was introduced successfully was St Mary’s, a multi-cultural and diverse community located alongside Hoglands Park. The community approached Southampton Council for a permanent location to play Cage Cricket and the council identified Hoglands.
