Horndon Woolmarket Village Hall – maintenance work

This village hall is grade 2 listed building that is leased to Thurrock Council by the Woolmarket Charitable Trust, which owns the building. There is only 2 years left on the current lease, which is insufficient for my trust’s deed of agreement to fund the extension project. The council will only agree to accept a new lease of 25 years if certain maintenance work is carried out. A structural survey has identified necessary maintenace work estimated to cost up to £60,000. A copy of the structural survey is attached.
My trustees recognise the value of this listed building and its function as a village hall to the community and wish to fund the maintenance work to the value of £60k. This will enable the council to accept the new 25 year lease and accept responsibility for the future.
