Howsham Mill Project

Howsham Mill is a Grade II listed18th century gothic watermill dating back to c1755. The project will restore this unique building for use as an environmental study/community centre and camping barn. The project will utilise the volume of water in the river to provide hydro-electric power which will power the entire village of Howsham and provide an income stream to make the mill self-sustaining. The project has been divided into 4 phases. Phase 1 - Restoration of Granary building, reinstatement of the waterwheel and installation of 1st Archimedean Screw turbine; Phase 2 - Installation of the Grid Connection to permit the waterwheel to generate power and become self - sustaining; Phase 3 - Restoration of the main mill building; Phase 4 - External stonework and installation of 2nd Archimedean Screw. GrantScape will contribute £62,000 towards all works included in phase 2.
