Hyndburn Towpath Improvements

This project will enhance a 1.9km section of towpath on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in Church. This will include the upgrading of 500m of washwall.
The towpath is currently constructed of condensed earth, and remains in its traditional form as when the canal was first opened over 200 years ago. The towpath is narrow, uneven, and is not suitable for access on a year round basis, particularly in the winter months. Upon completion, the towpath will be of the highest standard, providing a hard wearing, weather resistant, and low maintenance facility. This will guarantee year round safe usage for pedestrians, cyclists, and other users, offering a safe alternative to roads.
