Hythe-Calshot Marshes: Assessment and Restoration

Hythe-Calshot Marsh is a site of Special Scientific Interest with SAC, SPA and Ramsar designation. Saltmarshes and mudflat systems are identified as interdependent priority habitats in the UK BAP and the Hampshire LBAP. The project will; (1) examine the fate of persistent pollutants in the saltmarsh/mudflat food chain, by measuring levels of pollutants in sediments, invertebrates, plants and birds, and relating these to ecological outcomes within a site of international importance for conservation, (2) investigate the potential of the use of salt marsh plant species for remediation of contaminated coastal sediments
