Projects / Ightham Mote habitat creation for bats

Ightham Mote habitat creation for bats

Bats are some of the key species identified in the National Trust’s Land, Outdoors and Nature programme as indicators of a healthy and productive environment. Increased bat monitoring on our estates will let us find out which bats we have, and monitor the health of their populations. The project will enable baseline data to be gathered on the bat population across Ightham Mote’s estate by training local volunteers in bat monitoring and recording to ensure long-term sustainability. Data captured will also direct new habitat creation to improve bat foraging areas across the estate at key locations.

• Training of 25 community volunteers and 5 staff in bat monitoring and identification
• Creation of new habitats to improve bat foraging areas
• Ability to demonstrate how our habitats and species are performing
