Improve our Scout Den, 1st Albrighton Scout Group, Albrighton, Wolverhampton

This project is to replace the roof of the Scout Den, adding insulation and guttering, and to install double glazed windows.

The building is over 50 years old with a metal roof that is inefficient, leaks and doesn’t have full guttering, which means that the temperature in the hall changes dramatically and is no longer suitable for a growing Scout Group and the community groups that use it. The building has been undergoing a renovation in the last few years and the roof is the last “large” project to be tackled. This will include replacing the roof, adding insulation, guttering, and replacing the single glazed windows with double glazed and brick four up that have been previously boarded over.

The Scout Den is a community asset used widely by a local community that is lacking in community space. Feedback from users is that the building is often cold or too hot due to the metal roof which results in the limiting of activities in the building. Such activities would expand if the facilities were improved. The Den hosts community events such as a summer fayre, St George’s Day, bonfire night and Remembrance Sunday, which are all opportunities to bring the community together. The facilities are particularly important to a number of people that live in the remote locations with no other social contact, and the young people in the group that have limited access to other social and developmental activities. The building serves as a focus for community cohesion and development.
