Improvement of Underlying Tarmacadam and Resurfacing of 3 Worn Out Artificial Grass Courts

The work proposed covers the renewal of the playing surface and underlying sub-base of 3 of our 6 flood-lit artificial grass* tennis courts. In addition to the worn carpet, the sub-base of all six courts has deteriorated, possibly due to inadequate drainage, such that there are now visible bumps and troughs in the playing surface. In addition to the variable bounce brought about by the undulating surface there are a number of safety implications highlighted by a number of recent falls on our courts. This has lead to visiting teams being critical of our facilities. Competitive tennis can no longer be played on three of our six courts; this effectively halves the number of courts open to club members, the public and coaching activities Replacing three of our six courts as detailed in this proposal will allow our club to continue and build, importantly it will allow us to attract new members from a wide catchment area within South Northumberland.
