Improving Access to the Park and Farm

The Mudchute’s urban farm is a unique resource. It attracts several thousand visitors each year including large numbers of poor families with children who have no other experience of nature and over18,000 school children for nature studies. Unfortunately the road around our farm from which our visitors see the animals is pot-holed and hazardous and in wet weather impassable with standing water. We need to provide drainage and an asphalt road for safe access in all weathers. The road also needs to be extended into the wetbog of our composting site to enable effective composting of the large amount of bedding waste from our stables and farmyard.
The road needs to be durable and asphalted as it is used by a tractor and heavy trailer to carry bulk manure from ourstables to our composting site at one end of the road. Part of the problem upto now has been the fact that the current road which is made of stone and mud is continuously churned up and degraded by the occasional passage of the tractor.
