Improving coastal and floodplain grazing marsh at Rainham Marshes

This project seeks to improve 223 ha of coastal and floodplain grazing marsh (a UK BAP habitat) on the Inner Thames Marshes, through sensitive habitat management work. Specific work will include the creation of wetland features i.e. rills, scrapes, sluices; ditch creation and management; the installation of grazing infrastructure (gates and fencing) to control cattle being grazed on site to optimise the vegetation sward of the grazing marsh to benefit breeding birds e.g. lapwing. Monitoring and survey work will also be undertaken to inform future management of the site. We also will be conducting culvert clearance on several of the old MoD crossings on the Aveley Main River, which urgently require de-silting. This work will vastly improve water movement across the site.
