Improving Hutchinson’s Bank LNR for People & Wildlife

Hutchinson’s Bank is a 30 hectare Local Nature Reserve in Croydon. In recent years, a programme of scrub clearance (through cutting and spraying) and other measures has begun to successfully reverse many years of decline. Populations of rare chalk-loving plants and invertebrates are recovering. The project proposed here has two main strands. Firstly, new areas of grassland will be brought into active management, mainly through scrub cutting and spraying. Secondly, restoration and renovation of the reserve’s main boundary will improve security against motorcycle incursions and fly-tipping (which detract from the enjoyment of visitors to the site and also damage flora).
