Improving the accessibility of Bolton on Swale Lake

This project will dramatically improve the access and interpretation of Bolton on Swale Nature Reserve, near Catterick, so that more people, including families, and the less mobile, can easily access the nature reserve.

A new 350m path will be installed using recycled materials, leading to an innovative wildlife viewing shelter, made from recycled plastic board, made by a Yorkshire community enterprise. This will provide great views of the wildlife spectacle at the south end of the lake and be an inviting place in which to relax and soak up the tranquil atmosphere of the surroundings.

New interpretative signage will lead visitors down from the existing car park down an interactive trail to the viewpoint, so they can learn about the site’s quarrying past, its current wildlife value and the conservation management Yorkshire Wildlife Trust carries out.
