Installation of a Fully Accessible Toilet, All Saints Church Trysull, South Staffs

The project is the construction of a fully accessible toilet with baby changing unit in the existing ground floor tower room at All Saints Church Trysull, a Grade II* parish church.

The new toilet room will require new walls on three sides, a new false ceiling, and the toilet and basin will require connecting to the existing water supply. The existing electrical supply will be connected as required. A new soil waste pipe will be laid to connect the toilet and sink to the existing public foul sewer located in School Road.

The aspiration is that by installing a toilet it will enable the church to open up services to a wider public, especially children, the disabled, and the elderly. Once installed it is planned to hold regular gatherings where the community can come meet up, keep warm, and enjoy some social time within the church and wider communities.

As well as ensuring welcome, comfort and hospitality, the church is in the business of improving community mental health and wellbeing. More specifically, it intends to use the building to set up a community café (which would not be possible without a toilet). Also, as a springboard for launching “Worship in the Woods” events, which have shown that being in nature improves adults (especially men’s) mental health and inclusion following the Covid 19 pandemic. Similarly, to build up Trysull Primary School children’s mental resilience by organising activities for them to be in nature from the church building.
