Installation of Three Covered Padel Courts, Sutton Coldfield Tennis Club, West Midlands

This is a project to install three additional padel courts at Sutton Coldfield Tennis Club. ECT is being approached to fund the canopy which will go over the courts. SCTC installed a padel court in 2017 which has been a great success. Since this date padel has exploded as a sport and the court is operating at capacity. The installation of three additional padel courts will meet the additional demand and widen the offering available. The courts will be covered with a canopy to allow year-round play. Over 150 regular padel players use SCTC, comprising both members and non-members, including individuals who had historically been inactive. Court utilisation data shows that this court is operating at capacity and in the last year it is estimated there were over 4,000 non-member padel pay and play visits. Whilst SCTC will be charging to use these courts, it is a member’s club and SCTC is not seeking a commercial return on its investment in the project. Proposed court hire rates will be deliberately set at a level which, whilst allowing the club to repay the debt incurred in building these facilities, will still allow access to all. The proposed court fees will be significantly lower than commercial padel operators.
