Projects / Installation of wheelchair accessible fire escape

Installation of wheelchair accessible fire escape

We are based in a former school which was built in c.1820. Given the age of the building, is difficult to create simple step free access or to install a step-free access. This limits the services we can offer to the elderly, parents/carers and those with disabilities. We would like to install a step-free access route that doubles as an exit. This would allow us to offer services to a wider range of residents and open up our basement (currently part of a convoluted fire escape route).

The funds will be used to install a new step-free access route. As the centre building is on a slope, and it was built some 200 years ago, the accessibility is not ideal. At present, one of our main fire escape routes leaves from the back of the hall, then goes down into the basement through a long ramp / stepped route (on paved slabs) and through the basement before exiting outside.
