Instrumentation & Monitoring of Shear Forces within Landfills (extension of existing project 462216.008)

Extension of project 462216.008. Geomembranes are used in most UK landfills. In the context of steep sidewalls, geomembranes are potentially exposed to significant downdrag forces from settlement of the waste body, with risk of compromised functionality. This research seeks to investigate by means of long term monitoring a representative sidewall within an operational landfill cell.

Extension is required to existing project duration to Sept 2006 (original application indicated 36 to 60 months) noting project sanction by DEB did not immediately follow initial ENTRUST approval in June 2002.

We advise that out-turn project costings from the tendering process were higher than anticipated budget (£50K estimate) advised in the original project application. Final project costs agreed with DEB is £64,251; Envisage is contracted to Onyx Env Trust to this amount.

No additional LTCS funding beyond the total of £64,251 already agreed under contract with DEB is sought.
