Projects / Intertidal Discovery

Intertidal Discovery

The project proposes to undertake baseline habitat mapping of BAP priority intertidal habitat along the North Cornwall coast. This will include assessment of habitat damage and risk and will lead directly to the production of management plans & digital maps. Practical conservation management will be undertaken by the production of codes of practice with relevant partner organisations to reduce damage and bring about conservation measures such as ensuring sustainable bait digging practices and boat use and moorings within the habitat. Habitat protection will also be enabled through the planning process, where development works will have to consider BAP habitat presence and conservation and avoid or mitigate damage during development works.
Information on non-native species will also be collected to inform management planning for reducing damaging impacts.
Project data will also feed into the Cornwall Maritime Strategy and the South West Marine Spatial plan – integral to future practical marine conservation
