Island Pond Wood biodiversity boost, phase 2

Friends of Island Pond Wood (FIPW) are striving to enhance the biodiversity of the 4ha site to a point where a variety of species are thriving. There is 2 hectares of woodland to thin, 0.1 hectares of already restored meadow and 0.7 hectares of grassland that they wish to restore to meadow. In addition, there is 500m of blackthorn rich hedgerow to manage. Works will provide opportunities for not only wildlife, but community engagement and education. The Friends are looking ahead to the next 20 years of management to secure a place of solace and nature-based wellbeing for present and future residents. With development on the increase locally, the value of these green spaces is more important than ever.
