Island Restoration for Biodiversity at Ken Dee Marshes

This project aims to sustain the RSPB Ken Dee Marshes reserve as a site of conservation significance, and improve its network of wetlands for an array of iconic and endangered wildlife. The project has a number of biodiversity aims:
* To restore the islands / lagoon of Ken Dee – which represent the local priority habitat of ‘fens, carr, marsh, swamp and reedbed’ – to benefit wetland wildlife including priority LBAP and UK BAP species such as lapwing, curlew, reed bunting, otter and snipe
* To help the populations of these declining species recover locally and in turn support their national recovery and growth in the long-term
* To attract common terns – a species that previously bred at Ken Dee but is now scarce and declining locally – to the island habitats to breed during the summer months.
* This programme of activity will also improve habitat conditions for declining mammal species such as otter (a UK BAP species).
