Joe White Gardens, London - Basketball Court Refurbishment & Additional Habitat Creation (008345)

The project will deliver a refurbished basketball court at Joe White Gardens (formerly Aske Gardens). The project is co-designed with community stakeholders who both use the space regularly and have campaigned for its improvement.
The court is approaching the end of its life and in very poor condition. The project will include resurfacing and remarking the court and addressing the issue of tree roots which are cracking the ground and causing a trip hazard. Along with replacing the fencing, basketball posts / hoops / nets, and offer better seating for spectators, the surroundings will have biodiverse planting to align with nature recovery commitments.
Local groups and partners will deliver activation sessions and promote wellbeing opportunities for young people. The court provides an opportunity to recognize Joe White, a local resident who developed basketball opportunities and raised the aspirations of young people, and the gardens were renamed after him in 2023.
