Keeping a Roof Over Our Heads

We occupy a late Georgian/Victorian town house in South Shields, Grade II listed, which provides community space and an Information and Advice Service. The pitched roof is original, using Lakeland slate; we have had a number of ‘patch’ repairs over the last few years. We have discussed our options with the Historic Environment Officer at South Tyneside Council who has advised remedial work on the roof and skylights and renewal of gutters to original standards.

We would use the funding to repair the pitched roof; this would include the erection of scaffolding, replacing slates where necessary, relocating slipped slates, re-pegging slates, renewing flashing and re-pointing chimney stacks where needed and replacing and repairing the lead lined guttering which is contributing to water ingress.
