King George V Park

This project will create a new play area in Edinburgh City Centre, especially designed for older children/teenagers, targeting ages 11-14 years old. The site is a former railway yard, well situated next to an existing greenspace and play park for younger children, and to the city cycleway, giving it excellent links to other parts of the city.

The site has great potential, with much of the railway’s industrial architecture still present, giving great visual interest, and the site design complements this. Plans include improved surfacing, grass areas, terraced seating area and new equipment with a sculptural and urban feel, which young people will sit and climb on. The design also includes moving equipment to spin and bounce on to increase play value, again aimed at the older child. The design has an exciting, innovative feel and will be something new for the city.
