Projects / Kinneil Woods Long Term Forest Plan

Kinneil Woods Long Term Forest Plan

The overall aim is to develop multi-purpose, structurally diverse woodland, primarily managed to deliver biodiversity, recreational and amenity benefits to the local community and visitors, within the overall framework of Kinneil Estate.

The woodland suffers from wide spread wind blow, and is of limited biodiversity value. Recognising that these threats urgently required to be addressed, a Long Term Forest Plan has been developed to:

• Restructure the coniferous woodlands to create a more sustainable woodland through implementing a phased programme of felling and replanting
• Improve the biodiversity value of all of the woodlands by increasing structural, age class and species diversity; through selective felling/replanting of native species

This phase of work will entail restocking approximately 20 hectares of felled/windblown woodland with native broadleaf, conifer and mixed/policy woodland.
