Kirkburton Town Quarry Project

Strong path links through this quarry overlooking the valley can be developed as public open space and increase its use by the introduction of native planting and picnic benches. Furthermore, while there are surfaced paths through the quarry, their steepness and lack of lighting in places limits attractiveness for people whose mobility is impaired and at certain times of day. A bench at the path junction would provide suitable resting places along the route while an additional street light has been agreed with KMBC to complete lighting of the paths to a good standard. Additional signing at the bottom of the path would improve its linkage to Burton Dean Park creating an extensive recreational area. Extension of the wall to the top corner of the site will reduce fly tipping of garden waste. Cutting of paths through the upper quarry, and provision of picnic tables will encourage more use of the space for locals. .
